Beyond Burnt Console Table

This table marries fine woodworking with fire processes evolved from the Japanese art of "shou sugi ban." The top pattern features book-matched, end-grain white oak. Burning with a torch deeply etches growth rings and glue-lines. A wire-brushing enhances this effect and a white wax accentuates the pattern. The base is made of scorched alder oiled with a clear finish. The surfaces have a visually rich, variable surface and tactile quality that is both unusual and appealing.
