Ancient Roman Serapis Intaglio Ring
Gold & Stone Ring
Created by
Nancy Troske
A true work of art that combines old and new, this one-of-a-kind ring features an ancient Roman intaglio depicting the Graeco-Egyptian god Serapis wearing his traditional modius headdress. The sard chalcedony intaglio dates to the 2nd–3rd century AD and is set in a hand-fabricated 22k gold granulated band. Size 9.5.
As far back as 5000 BC, artisans created intaglios by carving images into gemstones to serve as their signature on official documents. Ancient people collected them as mementos and wore them set into pure gold signet rings, and influential political leaders and wealthy business people prized these intaglios for authenticating important documents.
This intaglio was purchased in London in 2017, and the Certificate of Authenticity will be sent with the ring.
