In her twenty-five years of working as jeweler, Petra Class has developed a language of composition and materials that communicates her unique sensibilities and esthetic. Initially scared away by the perfection of highly polished cut diamonds, Class was attracted to the character of uncut natural stones and their understated, yet seductive, quality. The contrast of the rough, uncut stones with the preciousness of gold and polished diamonds, and the repetition of shapes within each composition, became key components of Class's vocabulary. Also key is the creation of Class's beautiful one-of-a-kind, hand-formed bezels, surrounding each stone with the fluidity of gold.

I have several pieces of jewelry by Petra Class and really love her work. She chooses beautiful stones and sets them so nicely in precious gold. This handmade gold chain is beautiful, and the opal itself is likewise deep and colorful, but I can't help but feel a little disappointment at how small the pendant is, especially in relation to the size of the links of this beautiful gold chain. The pendant is approximately the size of my pinky fingernail. It just seems that this chain would be better served by a bigger stone/pendant. The description of it on the website was that the pendant diameter was supposed to be 0.8" and this is really nowhere near that. This is really a 5 star piece of craftsmanship and beauty however the size is just not as described.
I love the contrast between the gold bezel holding the opal, and the oxidized silver chain. Also like that the top of the pendant can accommodate other chains of different lengths. This makes it more versatile.
