Canyon Juniper
Giclee Print

This is a giclee print of an original watercolor painting that was painted on-site. The subject is an old juniper tree located in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Colorado. This tree is an hour's drive from the studio and it is a favorite spot that the artist keeps returning to. There is a group of very old juniper trees growing all the canyon's edge and the juxtaposition of these five or six trees creates a magic wonderland feeling. As the trees age, the trunks become twisted or gnarled and no one knows exactly why. They seem to interact with each other in a kind of dance as trunks and limbs twist and turn into space. These junipers may easily reach 800 to 1,000 years old. This energetic form and presence in nature is what inspires this artist to continually return to paint these trees!
