Song of a Bulbul
Color Photograph
Created by
Yuko Ishii
Pausing to perch on a delicately leafed branch, the bulbul makes a graphic statement in a mix of bold and muted colors. This mixed-media piece is created from an original photograph and is printed with archival pigment inks on cotton printmaking paper. Ishii highlights the image with colored pencils to create a painterly effect before affixing the print to a cradled wood panel with PVA. She coats the piece with wax to give the image a translucent quality, and the sides of the board are painted black and finished with clear acrylic—so framing is optional.
