Sway Vase Indigo

Hand pieced from slabs of stoneware clay, this sculptural vessel was first fired in an electric kiln and then sprayed with custom glaze before being fired in a wood heat noborigama kiln.

At the height of the second firing, salt and soda ash were introduced into the atmosphere of the chamber. The piece's placement in relation to the flame and the salt and soda vapor leads to unique textures and markings on the surface. In this piece, the lighter areas were transformed by the smoke, accentuating the curves.

Watertight and may be used for flowers.
