Sea Grass
Ceramic Table Lamp
Created by
Jan Jacque
Artist Jan Jacque's ceramic pieces are hand-built using slab and coil techniques: after imprinting the clay with textured sheets of foam plastic, she then airbrushes the work with colorants and pit fires them with combustibles such as sawdust, leaves, and straw, creating a smoky atmosphere that leaves interesting markings on the pieces, adding depth and subtlety to the work.
For this elegant ceramic table lamp, Jacque was inspired by the gentle swaying of sea grasses and the deep blues, greens, and purples of the ocean. Smooth sculptural forms including a tiger maple element stack gracefully on a base of black marble; above sits an oval, cream-colored crinkle paper shade attached with a harp and topped with a ceramic stone-shaped finial.
Shade and base ship separately.
