Cobalt Amphora
Art Glass Vase
Created by
John Gibbons
This hand-blown glass vase was created by rolling the clear molten glass through several colors to create a deep cobalt blue. It is then blown into a bronze mold called a pineapple mold to give it the pattern of bubbles trapped in the glass. After it comes out of the mold another layer of molten clear glass is put on top of the bubble, and it is blown and shaped by hand with wet newspaper to become a perfectly symmetrical vase.
