Suzanne Guttman
"My inspiration comes from the beauty of simple, classic forms and the fluidity within nature."
Suzanne Guttman strives to integrate what the environment has to offer into her art, finding intrinsic beauty in complex combinations of color and light. For the artist, working with glass is like choreographing an intensely focused dance, ever striving for the balance between grace and strength.
In her work, Guttman pairs the technical precision of traditional Venetian techniques with her own expressions of movement, whimsy, color, and simplicity. She is enamored with the process by which glass is transformed into a blown form: heat and gravity evolve the round form on the end of a rod into a state of beauty.
Guttman's artwork is informed by her background in graphic design as well as her ongoing study of glass at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle.
