Nicole and Harry Hansen
Sterling and Steel
"We hand forge "Sterling and Steel" heirlooms for a modern world."
"Sterling and Steel" objects are created with craftsmanship to last for centuries and style to fit with any decor. Rustic and brilliantly shiny, precious and recycled, dark and light, soft and hard, utilitarian and beautiful—these innate contrasts reflect life itself. The marriage of sterling and steel reflects the Hansen's own marriage—a collaboration drawn on the best parts of their contrasting natures.
There is nothing new in using heat and hammers to transform hard metal into a material that is as soft and pliable as silk, then carefully allowing it to cool and assume its final shape. But in the right hands, the results are stunning, inviting, tangible, and lasting.
The Hansens are two artists with metalsmithing in their blood: one born to the trade of welding, the other born to the precise work of goldsmiths. Harry's love of steel started as he welded and fabricated by his father's side. Since then, he has explored all things metal, from bladesmithing to horseshoeing. Nicole's parents gave her a hammer and copper at age nine, and she has never stopped forging and creating vessels of all sorts.
