Angela McFarland
McFarland Glass
"The magic of working with glass colors and metal foils that chemically react to create unique color variations during firing never fails to captivate me. I love the process of carefully planning a design, and also find delight in the unforeseen surprises that emerge from the kiln."
McFarland's work is greatly influenced by her deep appreciation for the natural world, particularly the element of water. The theme of flowing water is a prominent feature in much of her work. She finds that glass is an ideal medium to capture the peaceful feeling of being close to water, due to its luminosity and visual depth.
McFarland creates her work by firing small pieces of transparent and opaque glass hot enough to flow into one solid piece, usually to around 1500°. Additional firings are often necessary after adding more glass details to the surface. She then uses diamond cold-working tools to further refine the piece until she is satisfied with the result.
After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a specialization in sculpture, McFarland has established herself as a professional artist. She has showcased her artwork at prestigious fine art events like the Old Town Art Fair in Chicago and the Plaza Art Fair in Kansas City, in addition to exhibiting in art galleries and in both corporate and private collections.
