Marsh Scott

"I see everything as a timeline—the "layers of life." Each layer builds on the others. I convey the richness of experience in texture, repetition, and color."

Working in paint, metal, stone, and photography, Marsh Scott creates abstractions and contemporary works that are rich in intriguing textures, images, and colors. Her work includes paintings both large and small and sculptures ranging from smaller pieces for the home to monumental public art installations.

Her current series, "The Edge of the Ocean," combines media to express the colors, sights, and textures where the water meets the sand. Other work has more of an inward focus with layers, gestural marks, and symbols about universal experiences.

Marsh Scott began working in multiple media while receiving a BS in art education at Penn State University. Her specialization in ceramics, fiber, and jewelry was the beginning of her love of surface, texture, and process. While earning her master's degree in art at California State University, Long Beach, she began researching ethnic crafts and their patterns and textures. Architecture classes at the University of California at Irvine became the starting point for her ordered spatial and 2-D design.
