2 Bee Turquoise Vase
Ceramic Vase

This vase is created from white earthenware clay. The vessel is first wheel thrown, then trimmed to further refine the shape, then the bees are added. They are sculpted with meticulous detail, and placed so that it looks like they have just landed on the piece. Veins in their wings and tiny hairs on their bodies are etched. The vessel is then bisque fired before 5 layers of deep turquoise underglaze are brushed on with a small blue triangle pattern painted in a lake blue underglaze on top of turquoise. The bees are under glazed in deep yellow and black and details are etched into the black to further their realism. The base is underglazed in sharp black stripes and a clear gloss glaze is covering all, inside and out. Each piece is unique. Slight variations in composition, dimensions, and colors may occur.
